Cheng Wai Hok
Cheng graduated from City University of Hong Kong and founded the camera store Meteor HK in 2013. In 2018, he established MÉNOS, a photography cooperative and artist collective aimed at nurturing local photographic culture through workshops, exhibitions, photo-sharing events, and community activities.
As a freelance photojournalist, his images have been featured in various international and local media, including Sipa USA and Kyodo News.
He has also collaborated with fellow members of the MÉNOS collective to publish two photobooks: “Ménos Prologue: HK Street” (2019), which explores the everyday life of Hong Kong streets, and “The Weight of Silhouette” (2024), an abstract portrayal of the city’s forgotten stories from the last four years.
His works have been showcased in exhibitions such as “Prologue Hong Kong Street Exhibition” (2019), “The Weight of Silhouettes” at K11 Musea (2023), along with group shows like “Flower of the Other Shore” at the Shenzhen Museum of Art (2017).
Since 2025, he has been represented by La Galerie Paris 1839, and recently participated with them in Art Central Hong Kong in March 2026.
Book
Ménos Prologue: HK street (2019)
The debut photobook serves as a visual manifesto for the city’s overlooked narratives. The central theme of Prologue is a commitment to documenting 'forgotten people of Hong Kong.' More than just an artistic record, the book establishes the collective’s mission to bridge creative practice with social advocacy and community outreach.
The Weight of silhouettes (2024)
The Weight of Silhouette captures the essence of Hong Kong over the past four years, telling its stories through visual poetry. Recorded in the photographs are the underlying collective memories through the diverse perspectives of its members.

Interview: Joseph Cheng of meteor HK | Youtube @bigheadtaco
Meet Joseph, owner of Meteor Hong Kong. To call his business a camera store would be an understatement. Yes he sells new and used cameras and lenses, film, camera bags, cases, straps, etc. He is a camera store. But it's also his personal hang out. He works 7 days a week and he keeps most of his camera collection on display at the store. He showcases his personal collection of prints and books of famous and not-so-famous photographers he admires. Friends/customers drop in to say hello and good-bye. Please enjoy my conversation with Joseph as we talk about photography, gear, photographers and the future of Meteor in Hong Kong.

From the Feelings in the Heart to the Kaleidoscope of the City | Horizon Magazine
“If you've got the chance to talk with Jo, you'll instantly feel his passion for photography. His devotion attracted a group of photographers and photography lovers to support this project. "Many street photographers work in silos, why don't we join hands and support each other? This keeps the momentum going and encourages progress." he said. This simple idea led to the birth of Ménos and the photography journal. As the convenor, he also offers the members his camera shops Meteor HK to gather regularly and work on the project.”
